Open day: Orphans explore sneaker manufacture
Not only the employees but children, too, benefit from the Workers Welfare Society’s earnings. In March, Talon Sports – the manufactury where Ethletic produces – opened its door to enable orphans and disadvantaged children an insight into how the Ethletic sneakers are made.
After some welcoming sentences from Compliance Manager Waseem Khalid and a little introduction about the factory itself and Ethletic, the kids were finally allowed to enter the production halls.
“The kids were incredibly excited”,
says Ihsan Goraya, Society Manager of the Welfare Society, “they really enjoyed seeing the single steps until a ready to wear sneaker is born.”
Founded in 1998, the Talon Fairtrade Workers Welfare Society is striving for better working conditions for factory employees in Sialkot, Pakistan. The NGO is funded due to premium payments of brands such as Ethletic. In March most earnings were used to finance medical support.
